A major disaster was narrowly avoided on Saturday, August 17, 2024, when the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a tanker spill on the Jebba-Bode Saadu Expressway in Moro Local Government Area.

The tanker, carrying 45,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), spilled its contents at Pake Village, causing a serious risk of explosion.

The incident occurred around 6:12 PM, prompting an immediate response from the fire service.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and began dousing the tanker and surrounding area with water, effectively minimizing the risk of an explosion.

Despite the danger, some individuals attempted to siphon fuel from the spilled tanker, heightening the risk of a potential disaster.

However, the quick and coordinated efforts of the fire service team ensured that the fuel was safely transferred to another tanker, averting possible tragedy.

Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, stressed the importance of public safety during such incidents and urged residents to evacuate immediately in the event of a tanker spill.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and praised the firefighters for their prompt and effective response.
