Kwara NSCDC combats Gender-based Violence

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has intensified efforts to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) under the direction of Dr. Umar JG Mohammed.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Command’s headquarters in Ilorin, Commandant Umar revealed that the Gender Unit has handled 159 GBV cases over the past year.

These include 76 cases of domestic violence, physical assault, and intimidation; 58 cases of neglect of responsibilities; 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape; 12 threats to life; and 2 cases of missing children.

Several of these cases are now in court, and Commandant Umar assured the public that offenders will face legal consequences.

He reaffirmed the Corps’ firm stance against GBV and highlighted their commitment to working with stakeholders to tackle this issue effectively.

Commandant Umar, also called on the public to support the Corps by providing vital information to aid in crime prevention.
