NANTMP moves to sanitize herbal medicine practice in Kogi

Kogi state chapter of National Association of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) has unveiled a code of conduct for members as part of efforts to regulate alternative medicine practice in the state.

Chairman of NANTMP in the State who also doubles as the Onu Igala, Otto Awori-Lagos, Chief Ibrahim Amodu made the disclosure recently.

Chief Amodu said the introduction of code of practice was part of measures aimed at bringing sanity in the practice of traditional medicine.

According to him, there should be a deviation from the past where a lot of evils and wrong doings were witnessed among practitioners.

He particularly stated that under the new code of practice, it will be an offence to harm anyone, kill, or aid criminals, including kidnappers, saying any member caught will have himself to blame.

“Let me warn members that it will no longer be business as usual, using traditional medicine to cause harm of what ever form will not be tolorates”, he stated

Chief Amodu explained that traditional medicine should be used to heal rather than other evil intentions, urging members to use their opportunities to develope individuals and the society.

He assured that the code of practice for traditional medicine practitioners will be made available to chairmen across the state to enable them educate members with a view to attaining set objectives.

Chief Amodu appealed to NANTMP members across Kogi State to support his vision for the association, stressing that the growth and development of the association requires the collective effort of all stakeholders.
