From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested two suspected transformer cable vandals, recovered vandalised electricity cables and other tools in the Tanke-Iledu area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, popularly known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi, were arrested on October 5, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the command.
The arrests, according to the NSCDC, followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by its operatives in the community.

Items recovered from the suspects include vandalised transformer cables, cable outer and inner peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife and a pair of electrical gloves, among other materials said to be relevant to the investigation.
The command said preliminary investigation had linked the suspects to the alleged vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke-Iledu community, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons suspected to be involved.
The Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Abbas Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism in protecting critical national infrastructure.
Mohammed warned vandals and other economic saboteurs that the state would not be allowed to become a safe haven for criminal activities.
He said, “Kwara State will not be allowed to become a safe haven for vandals, criminals or economic saboteurs.”
The commandant assured residents that the NSCDC would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to identify, arrest and investigate individuals involved in activities capable of threatening public safety and critical infrastructure.
He also urged those involved in the vandalisation of public infrastructure to desist, stressing that the command remained committed to protecting government assets and safeguarding the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
The NSCDC said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation and establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with the law.
