From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Acting Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Prof. Sikirullahi Biliaminu, has recorded key interventions in revenue generation, electricity supply, diagnostic services, clinical care, infrastructure and staff administration within his first 100 days in office.

The initiatives, according to the hospital, are aimed at stabilising operations, improving patient care and addressing critical gaps in service delivery.

One of the major developments is an improvement in the hospital’s internally generated revenue (IGR), alongside enhanced stability in electricity supply.

The administration has also strengthened the hospital’s diagnostic capacity with the introduction of key laboratory equipment, including a spectrophotometer, Ion Selective Electrode (ISE) analyser and a haematology analyser with reticulocyte capability.

To improve power supply for critical maternal services, a modular solar power system has been installed at the Delivery Suite.

The administration also redeployed four ventilators, creating additional capacity for operating suites and helping to reduce cancellations of scheduled surgeries.

Renovation of the front section of the Accident and Emergency Unit is ongoing, alongside other renovation works across the hospital.

In the area of patient welfare, 500 bedsheets were provided, while solar-powered security lights are being installed at strategic locations to improve visibility and security.

Additional entrance and exit doors have also been provided, while construction has commenced on an entrance to the schools within the hospital’s school complex.

On human-resource management, the hospital completed IPPIS capturing for newly recruited staff and facilitated the reintegration of staff whose elongation of service had been approved.

Emergency response capacity was further strengthened with the receipt of a petrol/CNG-powered ambulance under the National Emergency Medical and Ambulance System (NEMSAS).

The interventions, covering finance, electricity, diagnostics, surgery, emergency care, infrastructure, security, patient welfare and human resources, form part of efforts by the Biliaminu administration to stabilise the institution and improve service delivery.

As the administration moves beyond its first 100 days, the sustainability and measurable impact of the interventions on patient care, service efficiency, staff welfare and overall hospital operations will remain key indicators of progress.
