The Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), has presented N2.5 million, to the families of its members who died in a road accident on May 1 this year in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The donation was made on behalf of the National President, Comrade Ado Minjibri, by the Deputy President, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, during a condolence visit to Araromi-Opin, headquarters of Ekiti LGA.

Speaking at the event, the National President said the Union remains committed to the welfare of its members beyond salary agitation.

“As a responsible organization, we will always stand by our members, especially in difficult times,” he said.

He also condoled with the bereaved families, the Kwara State Council of MHWUN, and the state government over the loss.

He urged the Kwara State Government to support the affected families so that the children of the deceased can live a normal and comfortable life.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ekiti LGA, Hon. Gabriel Awelewa, thanked the national and state leadership of the Union for their support. He pledged that the local government would continue to assist the affected families.

Also speaking, the National Vice President, North Central, who is also the Kwara NLC Chairman, Comrade Muritala Olayinka, and the Kwara State Chairman of MHWUN, Comrade Bolatito Isaac, commended the national leadership for its swift response. They prayed for quick recovery of the injured and reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to members’ welfare.

In letters of appreciation, the Kwara State Council of MHWUN, signed by Chairman Comrade Bolatito Oladele and Secretary Comrade Rose Momoh, described the N2.5 million support as “a powerful demonstration of leadership, solidarity, and commitment to members’ welfare.”

“Your immediate intervention has brought immense relief to the affected families. By standing with us in this moment of need, you have reinforced the true spirit of unity that binds us together,” the letter stated.

Similarly, the Head of Department, Health, Ekiti LGA, Comrade Suleiman Kikelomo, on behalf of the Council Chairman, appreciated the Union for identifying with the bereaved and injured.

“At a time when words cannot express our pain, your presence reminded us that we are not alone. This act of love and solidarity will not be forgotten,” she said.

She prayed for God’s blessings and protection upon the leadership and members of MHWUN and NLC.

The accident occurred while the health workers were returning home after the May Day celebration.
