From David Onuoja, Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has intervened to restore electricity to Maitama after vandals invaded the C2 Maitama Substation and plunged parts of the area into darkness.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), confirmed the intervention in a statement issued recently saying, Wike’s action averted a total blackout in the district.

According to AEDC, the vandalism and encroachment on the substation had been escalated to the highest levels of the FCT Administration.

“The Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has been fully briefed on the situation and has personally intervened to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the current power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas,” the statement said.

AEDC said it is working with the minister, security agencies, and other stakeholders to secure the substation, protect the infrastructure, and speed up power restoration.

The company commended Wike for his swift intervention and commitment to resolving the matter. It said it is committed to restoring supply as quickly and safely as possible and thanked customers for their patience and support during the disruption.
