He noted that while academic qualifications remain important, employers increasingly seek individuals who possess strong work ethics, adaptability and a willingness to learn.

The governor noted that the state government remains committed to creating an enabling environment that promotes economic growth, supports ease of doing business and sustains youth empowerment initiatives across the state.

Impact Monitoring and Learning Lead at the United Nations Development and Programme, UNDP, Mr. Chiedu Nwokolo, who spoke on behalf of the programme, said the NJFP’s impact continues to grow and called for increased employer participation in Kogi State.

Also speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the Vice President, on delivery and coordination, Hon. Akubo Adegbe, described the initiative as a strategic intervention designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.

He explained that the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme, which has been running for several years, was established to address the challenges faced by graduates in securing meaningful employment by providing them with practical workplace experience, mentorship and professional development opportunities.

According to him, the programme also seeks to strengthen collaboration with state governments in domesticating youth employment initiatives and ensuring that more graduates benefit from structured pathways into the labour market.

Implemented by the Federal Government in partnership with the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the initiative forms part of broader efforts to tackle graduate unemployment and underemployment, while preparing young Nigerians for long-term career success.
