FUL MACOSA seeks support of The Graphic on professional devt

Mass Communication Students Association (MACOSA), executives of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), are seeking collaboration with The Graphic Newspaper, to enhance the professional development of their members.

The President of MACOSA FUL, Comrade Aishat Umar, made this known when she led a delegation of executives on a courtesy call on The Graphic Newspaper in Lokoja.

Other MACOSA executives that accompanied her on the visit include the Vice President, Usman Damilare, Public Relations Officer,Abdulhamid Babatundr, Director of Academics I, Omanyo Ebikwu and the Assistant Director of Sports, Oriegu Stephen.

Speaking further, she said the association was seeking ways to foster practical skill acquisition for mass communication students through the support of the newspaper.

Comrade Aishat Umar emphasised that the proposed partnership with The Graphic would also go a long way in equipping the students with requisite professional skills, knowledge and training they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Reacting, The Managing Director of The Graphic Newspaper, Mr Yusuf Itopa, highlighted the newspaper’s willingness to partner with the association in enhancing human capital development for effective service delivery in the profession.

Journalism he emphasised was a rewarding career with immense potential for growth for those with dedication and zeal and advised the students strive for skills and knowledge to enable them to adapt to the changing media landscape.

He also called on the student journalists to demonstrate greater dedication to their studies and career aspiration to strengthen the overall quality of journalism in Nigeria in the future.

“You are the journalists of tomorrow,study the profession,show commitment to your studies and this course will take you places.

This profession is important to the society. Any society that is not informed, ignorance takes over so serve as the conscience of the society. This is a profession you have chosen be commitment to it ” he further charged them.

He then congratulated and prayed God to equip the new MACOSA leadership with knowledge to pilot the affairs of the association while reiterating that the newspaper was always open to positive partnerships designed for societal growth.

On her part, the News Editor of The Graphic Newspaper, Mrs Josephine Ali, encouraged students of mass communication to pursue their journalism careers with passion if they desire to shape the nation’s media landscape.

While acknowledging that the professional environment was becoming more competitive, she urged them to prioritise self development, be more ambitious as well as distinguish themselves through creative writing for career progression.

Mrs Ali then urged the students to begin to develop their skills by practicing campus journalism and taking advantage of the opportunities available in the newspaper to make weekly contributions to it’s content.
