From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A coalition of elders, leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), across Kwara State, has thrown its weight behind Dr. Bashir Bolarinwa, declaring him the most qualified aspirant to lead the state ahead of the next governorship election.

The endorsement was made during a press conference held in Ilorin where party stakeholders drawn from Kwara Central, North and South senatorial districts said their decision followed “extensive consultations and objective assessment” of the state’s political direction.

The group said Bolarinwa stands out among other contenders due to his track record in public service, party loyalty and capacity to unify the state.

According to the elders, “At this critical juncture in Kwara’s political evolution, leadership must be entrusted to an individual with proven integrity, experience, capacity and a unifying disposition. After careful evaluation, Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa clearly stands out above other contenders.”

They described the former Kwara APC chairman as a man of integrity whose conduct in public and private life reflects discipline, transparency and responsibility.

Highlighting his political journey, the stakeholders noted that Bolarinwa’s over two decades of experience, which includes serving as a councillor, local government chairman in Lagos State and member of the House of Representatives, has equipped him with the administrative competence required to govern Kwara effectively.

They also referenced his role as Kwara APC chairman in 2018, saying it demonstrated “resilience, competence and exceptional ability to manage both human and material resources.”

The elders further pointed to his academic credentials, noting that his doctoral qualification places him in a strong position to drive development and educational reforms in the state.

On party loyalty, the group said Bolarinwa remained committed to the APC even during difficult periods, maintaining allegiance to the party leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“In the face of political challenges, including neglect and marginalisation, he remained steadfast, dignified and loyal. His conduct underscores his maturity and commitment to collective progress over personal interest,” the statement added.

They also described him as a unifying figure with strong grassroots connections across the three senatorial districts, noting his ability to engage traditional rulers, youths and professionals.

The stakeholders credited Bolarinwa as a key figure in the 2019 “O To Ge” political movement, saying his organisational strength and grassroots mobilisation capacity were instrumental in reshaping Kwara’s political landscape.

They added that his background in business gives him an advantage in addressing economic challenges, particularly in areas such as revenue generation, job creation and agricultural development.

The elders concluded that Kwara needs a leader who is “tested, trusted and truly connected to the people,” expressing confidence that Bolarinwa’s leadership would bring unity and inclusive development to the state.

They formally endorsed his governorship ambition, urging party members and residents to support his aspiration.
