Leaders and stakeholders from Kwara North senatorial district on Tuesday, declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying his administration has delivered enough to earn another term in office.
The declaration, was made at a large political rally held at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, where stakeholders also intensified calls for the rotation of the Kwara State governorship seat to the northern part of the state in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the district’s leaders, former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and former minister, Hon. Issa Ibrahim, said the people of Kwara North had unanimously agreed to back Tinubu’s second term ambition.
He also disclosed that aspirants from the district seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket, had agreed to work together in unity for the common goal of producing the next governor from Kwara North.

“We have resolved to support any of our sons that emerges as the APC governorship candidate so that Kwara North can, for the first time since 1999, occupy the number one seat in the state,” he said.
The rally had in attendance key APC governorship hopefuls from the zone, including Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, Senator Sadiq Umar, Mohammed Bio, and Alhaji Tajudeen Audu.
Issa Ibrahim, further appealed to stakeholders from Kwara Central and Kwara South to support the zoning agenda, describing it as a step toward fairness and political inclusion in the state.
Traditional rulers also lent their voices to the demand. Speaking on behalf of monarchs, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, said the call for power shift reflects a long-standing aspiration of the people of the district.
According to him, Kwara North has remained a key contributor to the state’s political stability and electoral successes over the years but has yet to be rewarded with the governorship position.
“Kwara North has consistently shown loyalty, unity, and commitment in elections. In the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness, it is only just that the district is considered for the governorship,” he said.
He added that allowing Kwara North to produce the next governor would strengthen unity across the state and preserve Kwara’s identity as the “State of Harmony.”
Also speaking, former lawmaker and ex-Commissioner for Information, Hon. AbdulMumin Katibi, presented electoral data suggesting that Kwara North remains the second-largest voting bloc in the state after Kwara Central.
He argued that the district’s consistent support had played a major role in the emergence of past governors from other senatorial districts.
“This statistics show that Kwara North has always been central to the success of others. It is time for that support to be reciprocated,” he said.
The event ended with renewed calls for political collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders insisting that zoning the governorship to Kwara North would promote equity and strengthen unity in the state.
