Residents of Kaiama axis in Kwara State, were thrown into panic in the early hours of Friday, as armed bandits attacked a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp, at Nuku Village, leaving five members of the National Forest Guard dead.

The incident, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m. on April 10, 2026, was confirmed by the Kwara State Police Command, in a statement issued in Ilorin by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

According to the statement, the attackers launched a coordinated assault on the camp, targeting security personnel stationed in the area.

“At about 03:45hrs, bandits launched a coordinated attack on the PMF Camp at Nuku village where five members of the National Forest Guard were fatally shot by armed bandits,” the statement read.

The police further disclosed that the attackers also damaged a patrol vehicle belonging to operatives before officers at the camp successfully repelled the assault.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, condemned the attack and extended condolences to the families of the slain personnel.

“The Commissioner of Police expresses deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and condemns the attack in the strongest terms,” the statement added.

The Command assured residents that it has activated tactical and intelligence-driven operations to apprehend those responsible, while intensifying surveillance to forestall further attacks in the area.

Residents were also urged to support ongoing investigations by volunteering credible information that could aid security agencies in tracking down the perpetrators.

“The Command assures residents that operations have commenced to track down the perpetrators while continuous monitoring of the situation is ongoing to ensure the safety of residents,” the police stated.

The latest attack underscores growing security concerns in parts of Kwara North, with stakeholders calling for sustained efforts to curb banditry and protect rural communities.
