From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed deep worry over a disturbing video released by terrorists showing victims abducted from Woro community, in Kaiama Local Government Area, describing the footage as heartbreaking and inhumane.

In a statement issued on April 9, 2026, and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party lamented that nearly two months after the abduction of 176 residents, including children, the victims remain in captivity with little visible progress in securing their release.

The PDP said the images in the video, particularly those of crying children and other vulnerable individuals, highlight the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate government intervention.

“It is difficult to understand why such a serious situation has not received the urgent attention it deserves, especially when many of those abducted are children. Watching them cry for help is something no responsible government should ignore,” the statement read.

The opposition party called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to act swiftly and decisively to rescue the victims, noting that the abductees’ plea in the video suggests a desperate and possibly final call for help.

The party also urged the governor to address residents of Kaiama directly, provide clear updates on efforts being made, and reassure families that concrete steps are being taken to secure the safe return of their loved ones.

In the same vein, the PDP appealed to the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi, to lend his voice to the plight of the people of Kwara North.

“Anyone aspiring to lead must show concern and stand with the people in moments like this,” the party stated.

The PDP further stressed that decisive action should be taken within the next seven days, noting that other states have successfully rescued abducted victims and reunited families.

Reaffirming its solidarity with the people of Kaiama and affected families, the party vowed to continue pressing for urgent action until all victims are safely returned.
