From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Christians in Kwara State, have been urged to embrace forgiveness, remain steadfast in faith and live upright lives as they commemorate Good Friday, a day symbolising the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for humanity.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Kwara, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Sunday Adewole, gave the charge during the 2026 Good Friday service, held at the Cathedral of Saint Barnabas, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin.

Speaking on the theme, “The Way of the Cross,” the cleric stressed that forgiveness remains the bedrock of peaceful coexistence among individuals and within families.

According to him, the message of the “Seven Words on the Cross” highlights the need for believers to let go of offences and embrace reconciliation at all times.

“We must cultivate the habit of forgiveness. Forgive yourself and forgive others because we cannot live together without offending one another. Husband, forgive your wife, and wife, forgive your husband,” Adewole admonished.

He further called on parents to consciously build the future of their children through positive words and guidance, noting that what they say to their children can shape their destiny.

“Let your confession be positive, especially over your children. Speak life into them and guide them in the right path,” he said.

Addressing youths, the bishop urged them to see the care of their parents as a sacred duty, adding that such responsibility aligns with both moral values and biblical teachings.

Adewole also encouraged worshippers not to lose hope in the face of life’s challenges, reminding them that delays should not be mistaken for outright denial.

“Delay is not denial. Stay faithful and do not lose hope. God’s plans will always come to pass at the right time,” he added.

The cleric warned Christians against sinful indulgences, urging them to live disciplined lives and place their total trust in God.

“Do not develop a taste for sin. Remain faithful and commit everything into the hands of God,” he said.

The service drew Anglican faithful from different parts of Ilorin, who gathered to reflect on the significance of Good Friday and the lessons of sacrifice, forgiveness and hope embodied in the death of Jesus Christ.
