By Joseph Adahnu, Yola

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has reaffirmed Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, of Adamawa State, as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state.

Shettima announced this on Monday during a grand reception in honour of Fintiri in Yola, Adamawa State, where he was  received into the APC by thousands of party faithfuls, stakeholders, and supporters.

The occasion was described as a political turning point in the state.

The National Chairman of the party, Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the symbol of leadership to Governor Fintiri, affirming his position as the party leader in the state in line with the APC’s constitution and established practice.

The occasion witnessed several governors, alongside top party officials at both national and state levels, attended the event, underscoring its significance. This followed Governor Fintiri’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While addressing the crowed, Fintiri said his decision to join the APC was driven by the need to align Adamawa State with the federal government to accelerate development. He assured party leaders and supporters of his commitment to unity, pledging to work with both old and new members to strengthen the party’s structure in the state.

He also vowed to mobilise support for the party’s success in future elections, stressing that inclusiveness and cooperation would remain his guiding principles. In a notable development, Fintiri presented Senator Abdulaziz Nyako, son of former Adamawa State governor Murtala Nyako, whom he revealed had convinced to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to the APC.

The APC leaders of both the national and state levels welcomed the governor into the party, describing his defection as a major boost. They noted that his political experience and grassroot support would significantly enhance the party’s prospects in Adamawa and the North-East region.

Vice President and other party chieftains also commended Fintiri’s leadership record, cited infrastructure development and governance reforms as evidence of his capacity to contribute meaningfully to the APC at both state and national levels.

Stakeholders and political allies, in their separate remarks, described the governor’s entry into the APC as a “game changer,” expressing confidence that it would reshape the political landscape of Adamawa State.

Thousands of supporters, traditional leaders and political figures from across the state, added more colors, signalling strong backing for the governor’s new political direction.
