From David Onuoja, Abuja

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has expressed concern over several pressing issues affecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and Nigerians at large.

The union’s congress, which was held on March 14, 2026, highlighted the following key concerns: The rising fuel prices and its impact on the cost of living, prolonged water scarcity in several parts of the FCT and epileptic power supply across the country.

Others are: Delayed implementation of the new minimum wage for Federal Workers, resurgence of refuse heaps in the FCT, deforestation and environmental concerns, increasing presence of mentally ill persons on the streets and the rising incidence of “one chance” robbery operations.

The NUJ FCT Council has also urged the Federal Government and relevant authorities to address these issues urgently, emphasising the need for good governance, public welfare, and sustainable development.
