*says Nigeria gains a seasoned security expert

From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Former Labour Party chieftain and 2023 Kogi State House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Oluwatosin Medaiyese, has congratulated Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), describing his elevation as a major boost to the nation’s security architecture.

Medaiyese, said, Gen. Musa’s record as a disciplined officer and a strategic leader has positioned him as the right man to steer Nigeria’s defence sector at a time the country is confronting heightened security challenges.

“Your appointment is a testament to your proven leadership, dedication to national service and unwavering commitment to the peace and security of our nation,” he said in his congratulatory message.

He expressed confidence that the former Chief of Defence Staff, who led major counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast, will bring renewed vigour to the fight against banditry, terrorism and kidnapping across the country.

“As you assume this critical responsibility, I am confident that your wealth of experience will contribute significantly to strengthening our armed forces, enhancing national security and safeguarding the unity and stability of Nigeria,” Medaiyese added.

He prayed for God’s guidance on the new minister, saying, “I pray that God grants you the wisdom, courage and vision needed to excel in this noble assignment.”

Gen. Musa was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on December 2, 2025, and confirmed by the Senate a day later. He replaces Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned due to health reasons. The retired general served as Chief of Defence Staff from June 2023 to October 2025 and is widely respected for his expertise in counter-terrorism operations.

His appointment comes at a time Nigerians are demanding stronger, more coordinated security responses nationwide. Medaiyese noted that with Musa’s experience and track record, “the country can look forward to a more robust and proactive defence system.”

He concluded by wishing the minister a successful tenure “in service to our nation.”
