Meanwhile, he urged the public to respect and utilize the judicial system rather than resorting to jungle justice.

“This visit aimed to strengthen efforts in disseminating credible and accurate reports of court judgments across the state” Dutse said.

The Chairman explained that, the NUJ leadership has visited key stakeholders, including the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi FCA, and the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, adding that this tripartite engagement underscores the importance of collaboration among the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary in fostering democratic governance.

Comrade Dutse, emphasised that a healthy relationship between the judiciary and the NUJ is essential, and therefore the union seeks support for the training of its members to improve awareness of the judiciary’s role and responsibilities among citizens.

Responding, the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Umar Sadiq, acknowledged the vital contributions of journalists and encouraged the NUJ to expand its scope to report sensitive court judgments accurately.

He reiterated the judiciary’s openness to inquiries from journalists and advised the NUJ to partner with tertiary institutions in the state to acquire basic knowledge on judicial procedures, citing example from the then Kano State Council of the Union.

Justice Sadiq expressed his concern regarding misinformation and urged the NUJ to ensure accurate reporting of court judgments. He welcomed the NUJ’s visit and pledged continued support and cooperation for the union’s activities.
