A total of 31 students have graduated with first-class honours from two sets as the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, is set to graduate its pioneer sets of students on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing held on Thursday, where the institution outlined plans and achievements for its maiden convocation.

Speaking at the briefing, Prof. Salawu, revealed that a total of 266 students will receive their degrees drawn from two academic sessions, and 31 of them got first-class honours, describing the accomplishment as a testament to the university’s growing academic standards.

He explained that the university’s core mandate includes training highly skilled professionals in engineering, computing, applied sciences, and related disciplines.

CUSTECH is also charged with driving cutting-edge research to address the immediate developmental needs of Kogi State, Nigeria, and the global community, while nurturing entrepreneurship and problem-solving abilities in its students.

From its modest beginning with only two faculties and 11 foundational programmes, CUSTECH has grown into a major academic hub.

Today, the school boasts of 57 approved programmes, 44 departments, eight faculties, and a college, with more than 5,000 students enrolled, all these achieved within just five years.

The VC attributed this rapid expansion to the massive investments of the Kogi State Government in physical structures and modern facilities.

These include state-of-the-art laboratories, digital learning centres, lecture halls, staff offices, student hostels, and a serene campus environment that mirrors the vision laid by former Governor Bello and strengthened by the current leadership of the Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Pro. Salawu added that the strength of the university is further enhanced by its strategic partnerships with several organisations, including PEEMADI in Okene, Unicane Industries in Lokoja, the National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO), in Itakpe, Ajaokuta Steel Company, Mangal Cement, and the Kogi L-PRES project. These collaborations expose students to practical industry experience and support research growth.

He congratulated the graduating students, describing them as trailblazers and ambassadors of the CUSTECH dream.
