From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing communities in the state following the recent attack on members of the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area and another assault on rice farmers in Bokungi, Edu Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor made the pledge while receiving a joint delegation of the Eruku community and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), during a courtesy visit to Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin.

The visit followed his earlier trip to Eruku, where he was accompanied by security chiefs including Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi and the Director of the Department of State Services.

“I wholly condemn these attacks. May God repose the souls of our compatriots who lost their lives, and may their families find the strength to bear the loss,” AbdulRazaq said, describing both incidents as heartbreaking and unacceptable.

During his visit to Eruku, the Governor addressed residents at the palace of the Owa of Eruku, Oba Busari Olarewaju, before proceeding to speak directly to worshippers in the church where the attack took place.

He assured the community that his administration had already intensified security surveillance around schools and places of worship across the southern part of the state.

He noted that additional military personnel had been deployed to the region following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “With Mr President’s support, over 900 more troops have been sent to Kwara, and the Nigerian Army has strengthened its presence in Eruku,” he added.

AbdulRazaq also commended CAN for what he described as its responsible and prayerful response to the incident. “Our government will not leave any stone unturned in restoring total calm to Eruku,” he said.

Speaking on infrastructure, the Governor assured the delegation that work would soon commence on the Eruku road, which he described as a vital national route. He further reiterated his administration’s push for the federal government to dualise the Ilorin–Kabba road due to its economic significance to the North Central region.

The Governor maintained that the safety and stability of communities across Kwara remain top priorities of his administration.
