From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has again been thrown into mourning following a fresh attack on Tuesday evening that left two people dead and several others abducted.

Residents said the assailants stormed the area without warning, shooting sporadically and forcing many to flee into the surrounding bushes. “They came around nightfall and started shooting. Two people were killed instantly, and we don’t even know how many were taken,” a resident told our reporter.

Another resident, who lamented the unending violence, said the community had been under “perpetual attacks for the last three weeks,” despite repeated distress calls to security agencies. “We have begged the local and state governments for help, but nothing concrete has come. We are living in fear every day,” he said.

Community members noted that the police, local vigilantes, and the Eruku Progressive Union have been making efforts to resist the attackers in recent weeks, but the renewed assault has deepened fears of escalating insecurity.

An elder in the community appealed directly to the Federal Government for intervention. “We need federal help. These attacks are becoming too much for us to bear,” he said.

The Kwara State Police Command is yet to react to the latest attack at the time of filing this report.
