Kogi Youth Vanguard for Good Governance, has honoured the Managing Director of The Graphic Newspaper, Mr.Yusuf Itopa, with the prestigious Award of Excellence as Kogi Youth Ambassador.

The honour celebrates Mr. Itopa’s remarkable innovations as well as contributions to the development of Kogi State and good governance.
It was conferred during a special and well-attended ceremony held at the office of The Graphic Newspaper in Lokoja,

Speaking, Barrister Emmanuel Aiyedogbon, lead spokesperson for the Vanguard, highlighted the event’s significance in advancing good governance ; explaining the rigorous process behind the selection.
“A quantitative assessment team was constituted to evaluate impact, innovation, and service delivery before this decision was reached,” he said. “DG Government House Amb. Shaibu Oricha personally endorsed the award, recognising Mr. Itopa’s exemplary role in youth empowerment and media excellence.”

Barr. Aiyedogbon detailed the selection process, which included a confidential assessment and formal notification to the state government. “We invited the youths to participate in the presentation,” he noted, “symbolizing shared ownership of progress.”
Young members of the Vanguard then joined in handing over the award plaque.

The event attracted high-profile dignitaries, including Princess Nana Hauwa Yusuf, Director General of Radio Kogi, journalists from various media houses staff and members of The Graphic Newspaper management team. Their presence underscored the media’s critical role in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Itopa extended heartfelt gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for creating an enabling environment for governance to thrive.“This award reflects the positive changes under His Excellency’s leadership—improved infrastructure, stronger team cohesion, and a culture of merit over connections,” he said.

He also used the occasion to appreciate the Director General , Government House Administration, Amb. Shaibu Oricha , who doubles as Patron of the group for his patronage and the Accountant General of Kogi State and Matron of the Vanguard, Hajia Habibat Onumoko for her steadfast support.
Itopa highlighted the importance of teamwork and collective effort, noting recent upgrades at the newspaper—including new operational systems and alternative power sources—to enhance efficiency and reach.

“This recognition will inspire us to do more and attract greater support,” he added, calling for sustained government-media collaboration.
Itopa reflected on challenges overcome through perseverance and unity, reaffirming his commitment to high standards and community service. “Genuine recognition fuels excellence—we will continue serving Kogi with integrity,” he vowed.

Reacting, the Executive Editor of The Graphic Newspaper, Mr James Oyewole, while appreciating the group for the recognition, noted that the award serves as motivation to staff and management of the corporation to sustain and increase their efforts in their respective assignments.

He equally dedicated the award to the entire staff of the newspaper, stressing that their cooperation with the MD remains a major reason for the successes record under his watch.This is just as he decribed the honour as a sign of public appraisal and appreciation for their work and a motivation to continue serving the people and improving the state.

In her remarks, Princess Nana Hauwa Yusuf praised the role of the media in amplifying government programs and shaping public opinion. “Accurate, transparent reporting is essential for democracy,” she said. “We dedicate this award to all media practitioners and pledge continued partnership.”

In closing, Grace Ben Kato the Deputy News Editor of The Graphic Newspaper thanked all participants, emphasising youth leadership and teamwork as pillars of progress. “Together, we will sustain excellence and build a greater Kogi,” she declared.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed pledge from The Graphic Newspaper to deepen its contributions to public enlightenment and state development.
