Senate confirms Chief of Army Staff, others

Major General Waidi Shuaibu, has been confirmed as the Chief of Army Staff along with other Service Chiefs.

Shuaibu while addressing the Senate, said he served in many capacity in the Nigerian Army before he was appointed as the Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Similarly, the Senate after a closed-door meeting with the Service Chiefs, confirmed their appointment respectfully.

Speaking further, General Shuaibu, added that, during one of his services in the war zones with the insurgency, about 542 insurgents were neutralized and caches of ammunition were recovered from them.

He Promised to use his wealth of experience and continue from where his predecessor stopped.

Applauding his wealth of experience,  Senators urged him to do more by ensuring bandits and other insurgents becomes a thing of the past.

Also answering questions from the Senators, on the welfare of the Nigerian Army, he promised to not only ensure their salaries and allowances are paid but to also make sure they undergo more training for effective performance.

Also speaking during the screening, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who spoke on the financial challenges and logistics of the Armed forces, charged the Army to perform their duties and also called on the police to perform their duties rather than dragging the Army into some of their duties which is mainly civil.

On his part, the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, though of the maritime buttressed on the return of the radicalization of terrorists.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke, while answering questions from Senators, said he will use  modernization in technology and manpower to safeguard the lives of Nigerians if confirmed.

Defending the $1.2b Super Tucano aircraft, into the operation of the Nigerian Air Force, he explained that the business of Air Force is very expensive. Adding that, training one pilot, is very expensive and no money expended in the industry is too much.

Air Vice Aneke who equally spoke on Super-Tucano, said the Super-Tucano aircrafts are all working and that the notion about their whereabout shouldn’t be there at all. He promised to work harmoniously with others Service Chiefs to protect the territory of Nigeria.
