From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin.

As the one-week prayer for good governance, peace, and tranquility organised by the Kwara State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),  came to a close, Nigerians have been urged to combine prayers with positive actions for the unity and progress of the nation.

The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Religious Affairs (Christian Matters), Reverend Timothy Akangbe, gave the charge while monitoring prayer sessions in churches across Ilorin.

Reverend Akangbe, emphasised the need for Nigerians, especially residents of Kwara State, to demonstrate good character, embrace peace, and live harmoniously with their neighbors.

According to him, “It is only under a peaceful environment that the desired success can be achieved.”

He appealed to citizens to support and cooperate with the present administration, noting that government has been working to reposition both the state and the nation for the better.

“This administration and the security agencies have been working hard to improve security. People must play their part by giving useful information that can help prevent crime before it escalates,” he added.

The cleric attributed many of Nigeria’s challenges to a lack of truth and honesty, urging the people to embrace transparency.

He further commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration for supporting security agencies and driving development across the state.

“Security is the duty of all, and we must be proactive and supportive,” he stressed.

Reverend Akangbe also lauded the leadership of CAN in the state under Bishop Sunday Adewole for championing the prayer initiative, urging Christians to “always stand in the gap with prayers at all times.”

Churches visited during the monitoring included UMCA, Saw-Mill; ECWA Fate/Tanke; and Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Sabo Oke, Ilorin.
