The Kwara State House of Assembly, recently moved to tighten regulations on charcoal production in the state by approving the first reading of an amendment bill seeking stiffer penalties for offenders.

The bill, tagged Charcoal Production (Prohibition) (Amendment) Bill 2025, was sponsored by Hon. Omotosho Rasaq (Isin) and seconded by Hon. Mohammed Salihu (Okuta/Yashikira).

The bill seeks to review the existing law under CAP C8, with emphasis on increasing fines and punishments for illegal production and related offences.

Those confirmed include Monde Aliu Umar (Kaiama), Titus Olasupo Ashaolu (Oke-Ero), Lawal Victor Jimoh (Ilorin South), and Dr. Saliu Ajia (Ilorin West).

“The nominees have been found worthy and capable of contributing to the growth of the state’s judicial system,” the Speaker declared before directing the Clerk of the House to formally communicate the confirmation to the governor.

The plenary also received visitors from the University of Ilorin’s Postgraduate Legislative Unit and Eagles Foundation for Humanity, who observed proceedings from the gallery.
