From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
Residents of Agunbiade Parakoyi Street, Sawmill area of Ilorin, were thrown into confusion recently following the discovery of the lifeless body of an unidentified middle-aged man.
The corpse, found around 3:39 a.m., drew the attention of landlords, residents and passersby, many of whom gathered in shock but could not identify the deceased.
Speaking on the incident, the Chairman of Ifesowapo Community, Alhaji Abdulwahab Bello-Opeloyeru, explained that the community was startled by the tragedy.
“We only heard a loud scream in the middle of the night but nobody could come out because of the insecurity around. It was on our way to observe early morning prayers that we saw the body lying on the street,” he said.
Bello-Opeloyeru hinted that the deceased might have been coming from a nearby hotel before the incident occurred, raising concerns about safety and the activities of hospitality spots in the area.
Police officers from B Division, Surulere, later arrived and evacuated the body. Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Ejire Adetoun, for official comments were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls.
The development comes barely a day after the Ifesowapo Community, under Bello-Opeloyeru’s leadership, held a security meeting where residents unanimously opposed the establishment of hotels and alcohol joints within the neighbourhood.
