Professor Akerejola buried in Ogori

Amidst outpour of condolences, the remains of Professor Olugbemiro Akerejola, was committed to mother earth in Ogori.

The remains arrived Ogori from Abuja, where he breathe his last, just before the dawn of the day.

It arrived in the waiting arms of members of the Local Government Traditional Council and his family members, who paid glowing tributes to the deceased.

He was buried in his palace in Okpa, Ogori, where a large turnout of sympathisers had thronged out to pay their last respects to one of Ogori’s most lustrous sons.

The body was accompanied by his eldest son, General Erema Akerejola, who presently serves as the Chief of Logistics, Nigerian Army.

Professor Akerejola, who was described as a detribalised Nigerian in a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, had died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Monday, following a brief illness.

The octogenarian, who, until his demise was the Ubuoro of Ogoriland, is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and several siblings.

He was the son of Oba Bawa Eminefo Akerejola and elder brother to the immediate past Ologori, Late Oba Gaius Bade Bawa-Akerejola.

He also served as Director General, Industrial Training Fund (ITF) between 2000 and 2006.

Prior to that, he had taught in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he held several positions, including, Director, School of Basic and General Studies.

He will be remembered for expanding the frontiers of ITF.
