*Abducts father, leaves mother crying for help

Mr. Abdusalam, is a humble farmer from a conservative rural community of Kaida in the Guagwalada Area (Abuja Municipal Area Council).

He was kidnapped shortly after his wife, Abibetu Dauda gave birth to a set of twins – an event considered an abomination by deeply rooted traditional beliefs of the village and fearing spiritual consequences, the villagers turned hostile, blaming him for bringing a curse upon the land. A thing that was long dealt with in the days of Mary Slessor in Calabar. Despite modern knowledge, the community’s ancient superstition led to his capture by a group of extremist seeking to “cleanse” the village.

His kidnapping became a tragic symbol of ignorance and the dangers of clinging to outdated beliefs in a changing world.

Allegations have surfaced suggesting that Abdusalam Yakubu’s kidnapping in 2025 was premeditated and carried out by his own kinsmen. The payment of ransom and his eventual release have not alleviated the fears of Abdusalam and his immediate family, who continue to live in trepidation.

Additionally, the birth of his children, including the twins, have raised significant cultural concerns, which in line with the traditional practice, is to sacrifice them to idols, emphasising the need for immediate action to protect the lives of these innocent children. The mother of these children was recently attacked in her place of abode by unknown persons believed to be haters of twins and thus, hospitalised along with the children.

Lastly, this narrative suggests that in a community of the blind, a one-eyed man is ostensibly the king, and his declarations are binding on the immediate society.

Moreover, considering the sanctity of life and the right to live, it is essential to seek a visa to reside in a rational society where life is valued, and the rights of twins born into a family, irrespective of cultural beliefs, remain fundamentally sacrosanct.

In the word of their mother, she said: “My twins must live to fulfill their destiny, studying fundamental questions that involve critical thinking, influencing all other disciplines concerning humanity and society.”

Moreover, attached for consideration are pictorial representation of the wife of Yakubu at the hospital bed for injuries sustained during one of the many attacks.

“Abibetu and the children must live”, said Isaiah, a concerned resident.
