Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has inducted 61 newly qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS), students from its 2023/2024 academic session into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
The event marked the 6th oath-taking and induction ceremony held by the institution.
The Registrar of MLSCN, Professor Tosan Erhabor, who presided over the ceremony, praised KWASU for achieving full accreditation to run the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) program.

He also announced an increase in the university’s admission quota for the MLS program to 120 students, signaling confidence in the institution’s capacity to train more professionals.
“Let’s also congratulate you on your full accreditation to run the BMLS program for the next five years. It is a glorious accomplishment which should not be taken for granted. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and his team have played pivotal roles in this accomplishment, and we appreciate them,” Professor Erhabor said.
He emphasised the Council’s dedication to maintaining high standards, pledging continued support to KWASU in its mission to produce competent Medical Laboratory Scientists.
“Working with the Department of Medical Laboratory Science has been seamless and encouraging so far, indicating your commitment to the high standards MLSCN is known for. I urge you to keep up the efforts and the benefits will follow,” he added.
Addressing the inductees, Professor Erhabor urged them to uphold professionalism, adhere to Council regulations, and avoid misconduct that could jeopardize their careers.
In his remarks, KWASU Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, commended the Kwara State Government for its transformative role in converting the Ilorin General Hospital into the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH).
He described the development as a significant step toward enhancing clinical training for students in medical and health-related fields.
“We are committed to producing skilled professionals who will contribute to strengthening the country’s healthcare sector. With continued support from the state government, KWASU will remain a beacon of excellence in training healthcare professionals,” Professor Jimoh said.
The Vice Chancellor also congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to use their knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions to society.
Among the 61 inductees, 24 graduated with Second Class Upper degrees, 36 earned Second Class Lower degrees, and one obtained a Third Class degree.
