An 18-year-old boy, Olawumi Ayomide, and his gang of thieves set a house ablaze after stealing foodstuffs, groceries, and clothing in the Gaa-Akanbi area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, around 12:11 p.m. at No. 59, Afenifere Community, Onireke.

According to a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, PFO Hassan Adekunle, “the Kwara State Fire Service responded swiftly, but by the time the fire was brought under control within 25 minutes, two rooms in the three-bedroom bungalow had already been destroyed.

Items lost in the fire included a mattress, valuable documents, a plasma TV, and clothings.

“investigations revealed that the gang set the house on fire after being caught by residents. In a bid to escape, Ayomide, one of the three gang members, stabbed a resident twice before being apprehended by the community.

The community chairman, Mr. Azeez Jamiu, handed Ayomide over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Tanke Division.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, urged the public to “remain vigilant and prioritise safety at all times.”
