Every Apple Satan gives you has a worm inside: A reflection on life’s imperfections

The phrase “every apple Satan gives you has a worm inside” is a metaphorical expression that suggests that not everything that appears attractive or appealing is necessarily good or wholesome. This idea can be interpreted in various ways, depending on one’s perspective and experiences.

The apple is a symbol of temptation, knowledge, and desire. It is often associated with the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible, where the forbidden fruit is depicted as an apple. This symbolism can be seen as a representation of the human condition, where we are often drawn to things that may not be good for us.

The worm inside the apple represents the imperfections, flaws, or negative consequences that can be hidden beneath the surface of something that appears appealing. This could be a person, a situation, or an opportunity that seems attractive at first but ultimately proves to be problematic. The idea that every apple has a worm inside can be seen as a reflection of life’s imperfections. Nothing is perfect, and everything has its flaws.

When it comes to choosing a life partner or navigating relationships, the phrase “every apple Satan gives you has a worm inside” serves as a poignant reminder to be cautious and discerning. This saying suggests that even the most appealing or attractive partner may have underlying issues or flaws that can ultimately lead to heartache or disappointment.

I recently read a true life story of a man who killed his wife during an argument. This is one of many issues of domestic violence taking place in marriages and relationships. Domestic abuse is a significant issue in Nigeria, affecting millions of women and children. According to recent statistics, approximately 30% of Nigerian women experience domestic violence, with 1 in 3 women experiencing some form of spousal violence.

In Lagos State alone, 3,685 cases of domestic violence were recorded between August 2024 and July 2025, out of a total of 8,692 reported cases of domestic and sexual violence. Key drivers of domestic violence in Nigeria include marital incompatibility, sexual denial, poor conflict management, infidelity, joblessness, alcoholism, depression, and insecurity. External factors like family interference and cultural or religious differences also contribute to the problem. Forms of Domestic Violence includes Physical Violence: battery, beatings, torture, acid baths, and rape, sexual violence: forced sex, sexual assault, and harassment, emotional and psychological abuse: Verbal abuse, threats, and intimidation. Domestic violence can lead to physical injuries, mental health issues, and even death. It can also lead to social isolation, loss of economic opportunities, and damage to family relationships.

It is very important to look out for red flags when getting into a relationship. This is where we often get it wrong. When evaluating potential partners, it’s essential to look beyond the surface. He or she could look like the proverbial apple, looking beautiful, attractive, fresh given by Satan but with dangerous worms inside. With attitude better imagined than experienced. Some red flags to watch out for include inconsistent behavior. A partner who is inconsistent in their words and actions may be hiding underlying issues. There are some people who lack emotional intelligence. A partner who struggles with empathy, communication, or conflict resolution may create challenges in the relationship. Unhealthy habits is another red flag. A partner with unhealthy habits, such as substance abuse or toxic behavior, can negatively impact the relationship.

The watch word is Due Diligence. When choosing a life partner, it’s crucial to take the time to get to know them, observe their behavior, and evaluate their values and character. This due diligence can help you identify potential issues and make a more informed decision about whether the relationship is healthy and sustainable.

The phrase “every apple Satan gives you has a worm inside,” teaches us to be cautious and discerning in our relationships. By being aware of potential red flags and taking the time to evaluate our partners, we can build stronger, healthier relationships that are more likely to stand the test of time. Of course, nobody is perfect but you have the power to choose your imperfection.

Don’t judge by appearance. The apple’s outer appearance may look perfect, but the worm inside reveals its true nature. This can serve as a reminder not to judge things solely by how they appear. The worm can represent hidden dangers or risks that may be lurking beneath the surface. The apple with a worm inside serves as a powerful symbol, reminding us to look beyond appearances, accept imperfections, and cultivate resilience in the face of life’s challenges. Be cautious of appearances. Not everything that looks good is necessarily good, look beyond the surface and take the time to evaluate situations and people carefully. The grave yard has house thousands of women with dreams, visions and aspirations as a result of domestic violence.

In conclusion, the phrase “every apple Satan gives you has a worm inside,” serves as a reminder to be cautious and discerning when choosing a life partner or navigating relationships. By being aware of potential red flags and taking the time to evaluate our partners, we can build stronger, healthier relationships that bring joy and fulfillment to our lives.
