From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

No fewer than 200 officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, have been decorated with their new ranks, with a strong charge to see promotion as a call to higher responsibility and improved service to the public.

The decoration ceremony was held on Tuesday at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Ilorin and was presided over by the State Commandant, Dr Umar J.G. Mohammed, who commended the officers for what he described as “years of hard work, integrity and dedication to duty.”

Addressing the beneficiaries, Dr Mohammed said promotion in the Corps was not given as a favour but earned through merit and discipline. He described the elevation as “a mark of trust and a call to greater responsibility,” stressing that higher ranks must translate to better conduct and operational efficiency.

“Promotion is not just about wearing a new rank; it is about increased discipline, renewed commitment and a higher sense of responsibility to the nation,” the Commandant said. “You must justify the confidence reposed in you by leading with integrity and professionalism.”

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism and effective service delivery, noting that the NSCDC in Kwara would continue to strengthen its operations in line with national security objectives.

Dr Mohammed also lauded the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for what he described as transformative leadership and sustained support for the Corps, particularly in the areas of welfare and capacity building.

According to him, “The ongoing reforms under the Honourable Minister have boosted the morale of officers and improved the overall effectiveness of the Corps across the country.”

The Kwara NSCDC boss equally praised the Commandant-General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, mni, OFR, for entrenching a merit-based promotion system and prioritising training and professionalism.

He assured officers yet to be promoted that the Corps remained committed to fairness and due process in career advancement, urging them to remain focused and dedicated.

Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Deputy Commandant of Corps, Awoyale Olusoji, expressed gratitude to the NSCDC leadership for the confidence reposed in them, pledging renewed loyalty and commitment to duty.

“We see this promotion as a challenge to do more. We assure the management and the people of Kwara State that we will continue to uphold the values of integrity, service excellence and loyalty to Nigeria,” Awoyale said.

The event attracted senior officers, family members and invited guests, who joined in celebrating the officers’ career progression and new responsibilities.
