The lawmaker representing Kogi/Koton-Karfe State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Idrees Maikudi, has restated his commitment to delivering purposeful and people-oriented representation to his constituents, emphasising job creation, education, and infrastructural development as his top priorities.

Speaking during an interview, Hon. Aliyu,  recounted some of his achievements since assuming office, noting that his focus has been on empowering people through sustainable means rather than handouts.

“I cherish giving people jobs more than giving them money, because when my tenure is over, that money will not continue, but the job will. Those who are employed can, in turn, assist others.”

The lawmaker revealed that he has paid for the WAEC registration fees of students from across the 11 wards of Kogi Local Government, particularly targeting children who have lost their parents.

As the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, the lawmaker has also facilitated employment opportunities for indigenes of his constituency in Kogi State University, Osara, and Kogi State University, Kabba, among others.

In a series of developmental initiatives, Hon. Aliyu drilled three motorized boreholes one in each of the three political zones (A, B, and C) to provide access to clean water.

“As part of my empowerment drive I will soon commence the distribution of additional machines and 420 pieces of clothing to my constituents.”

Demonstrating his passion for community development, Hon. Aliyu played a key role in restoring electricity to Koton, following the vandalization of cable wires. He personally engaged relevant stakeholders to ensure the community was reconnected.

In the area of youth and sports development, the lawmaker organised the Opanda Football Tournament in Girinya, where he distributed cash prizes worth millions of naira and sports kits to all participating teams across Kogi Local Government.

To further cushion the impact of economic hardship, Hon. Aliyu distributed food items including rice, beans, and corn, as well as clothing materials to widows across all wards of the local government.

He also empowered youth and women with capital and motorcycles to enhance their livelihoods, and, with the support of the African Development Bank, facilitated the establishment of a rice mill factory in Girinya community, a project expected to boost local agricultural production and employment.

In addition, the lawmaker donated cooking pots and coolers to the Agage Women Association, describing the gesture as part of his continuous effort to support rural women and promote self-reliance.

Hon. Aliyu assured his constituents that the coming months would witness even greater developmental strides, pledging to sustain the momentum of progress and equitable representation.

“What my people should expect from me is the continuation of good work and quality representation. I love my constituents deeply, and I will continue to serve them with sincerity and the fear of God.”
