Academic activities are set to commence at the Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses of Kwara State University (KWASU), as the state government nears completion of massive infrastructural projects on the campuses.
Officials confirmed the development during an inspection recently.
The campuses, a major milestone in the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, mark the fulfillment of his promise to prioritise projects initiated by his predecessor.
The Governor’s commitment to educational infrastructure has transformed these campuses into hubs for academic excellence.
Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde, announced during an inspection tour in Osi, Ekiti Local Government, that construction at the campus has reached 98% completion.
She confirmed that lectures for the Department of Fine and Applied Arts under the newly established Faculty of Environmental Sciences, would begin on Monday, November 18, while activities at the Faculty of Agriculture in Ilesha Baruba Campus are scheduled for January 2024.
“From mere looking at the campus buildings, you would see that it is a job well done. And the quality is superb. We are currently putting the finishing touches, including the roads network, which are ongoing,” Dr. Arinde told reporters.
She lauded Governor AbdulRazaq’s dedication, noting that the community initially doubted the project’s completion.
Head of the Osi Campus, Prof. Binta Sulyman, confirmed that lectures would begin on Monday for the Department of Fine and Applied Arts.
She highlighted the facilities on the campus, including lecture theaters, an auditorium with 1,500-2,000 seating capacity, studios, a CBT center, an arts gallery, and solar-powered streetlights.
Prof. Sulyman commended the Governor’s hard work, stating that the project’s completion has won the goodwill of the host community.
“By January, more departments, including Estate Management, Urban and Regional Development, Geography, Architecture, and Quantity Survey, will commence operations,” she said.
The Osi campus is expected to drive economic growth in its host community.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s efforts in completing the campuses underscore his administration’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure in Kwara State, ensuring students and communities benefit significantly from the projects.
