*Seeks more investments in education

From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Dr. Abdul Muhammed, has commended OPay Digital Services, for its scholarship initiative aimed at easing financial burdens for students pursuing higher education.

Speaking during a visit by OPay representatives to the institution, Dr. Abdul, described the initiative as a welcome development, particularly as it includes polytechnics and recognises Kwara State Polytechnic among the ten selected beneficiaries.

“This is a laudable effort that will open doors of opportunity for our students. Education should be accessible to all, and such initiatives help in breaking financial barriers,” he said.

However, the Rector urged OPay to go beyond scholarships and invest in infrastructural projects such as hostels, classrooms, and ICT facilities to create a more conducive learning environment.

He also called for collaboration in agricultural initiatives to enhance food security in the state while giving students hands-on experience in their field of study.

In his remarks, OPay’s representative, Mr. Itoro Udo, explained that the scholarship program is designed to foster career growth, inclusivity, and financial support for students.

He stated that the initiative would sponsor 20 students annually for the next 10 years, with each beneficiary receiving ₦300,000 per academic session.

“Our goal is to empower young Nigerians by easing their financial struggles and creating pathways for career success,” Udo said, adding that eligibility requires students to maintain an active OPay account.

The initiative underscores OPay’s long-term commitment to education and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
