The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, has emphasised on the critical link between security and credible elections in Nigeria; describing it as necessity.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies (AANIS), to the headquarters of INEC in Abuja, Amupitan stressed that, secure elections are foundational to national stability and democracy.
The visit coincided with AANIS’ upcoming 2nd Annual Lecture, themed “Credible Election and National Security in Nigeria.” Amupitan commended AANIS for strengthening security professionals’ capacity, saying their efforts bolster Nigeria’s resilience against threats to democratic development.
He assured INEC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, leveraging innovation and collaboration to ensure electoral integrity. Highlighting the need for security agencies and stakeholders to uphold transparency, fairness, and security during elections.
The INEC Chairman looked forward to fruitful discussions and ongoing collaboration with AANIS in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and national security.
