From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
The remains of Hafsoh Lawal, a final year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, who was allegedly murdered by her Facebook acquaintance, AbdulRahman Bello, have finally been buried, bringing a measure of closure to a grieving family.
Her dismembered body was laid to rest on Monday at a cemetery in the Sango area of Ilorin according to Islamic rites.
The burial followed a court order granting the family’s request to retrieve her remains for proper burial.
Her father, Ibrahim Lawal Adefalu, confirmed the burial and expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy that cut short his daughter’s life and dreams.
“We only asked for her body so we could give her a proper and dignified burial as our faith demands,” Mr. Adefalu said, fighting back tears. “Our pain cannot be measured, but we thank the court for granting our request.”
During the court session at the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Sulyman, who is leading the prosecution, made the application on behalf of the bereaved family.
The lead defence counsel, Chukwudi Maduka, representing the prime suspect, Bello, did not oppose the request and expressed sympathy for the grieving family.
The presiding judge consequently ordered that the deceased’s remains be handed over to her relatives.
Bello and four others, Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Suleiman Muhydeen, Jamiu Uthman and AbdulRahman Jamiu are standing trial on charges of conspiracy and murder in connection with Hafsoh’s gruesome death.
The trial continues as the public watches closely, with many in Kwara State and beyond calling for justice for the late student.
