– Orders immediate relief for affected residents

From Taiye Joseph

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, paid a visit to Bode Saadu to sympathize with residents affected by the recent flooding of the Arinun Bridge.

The heavy downpour had caused the river to overflow, submerging several houses in the area.

The Governor, accompanied by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. John Bello, and Special Adviser on Special Duties, Abdulrazaq Jiddah, toured the affected parts of the community to assess the extent of the damage.

Speaking during the visit, Governor AbdulRazaq, expressed his commitment to providing immediate relief to the residents, noting that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), had already been deployed to offer support.

“We are here to commiserate with the people of Bode Saadu and ensure that everyone is safe. The flood was caused by issues related to the ongoing dualization of the Ilorin-Mokwa Road by the Federal Ministry of Works. A temporary bypass was created, which has unfortunately led to challenges.

Experts from the Federal Ministry of Works are on their way to address the problem and find a lasting solution,” the Governor said.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to residents across the state to observe building setbacks to prevent future disasters.

“A major issue we face nationwide is the disregard for setbacks. Many of the affected buildings wouldn’t have been impacted if the right setbacks were observed. We will intensify efforts to ensure compliance for the safety of all,” AbdulRazaq added.

Residents of Bode Saadu commended the Governor’s visit, describing it as a reflection of his dedication to the welfare of the people.

Hon. John Bello, who hails from the area, also praised the Governor for his swift response to the crisis.

The Governor assured that the government would continue to work closely with experts to prevent a recurrence of the flood and improve infrastructure in the area.
