As the current nation-wide fuel crisis continues to linger, black marketers are gradually resurfacing around major streets in Lokoja the state capital.
The Graphic observed that black marketers have taken advantage of the current rise in price and scarcity of petrol to position themselves around filling stations, motor parks and other strategic areas of town.
They sell their commodity in jerrycans with a litter jumping from N1,200 to N1,500 in days.
The fuel scarcity in Kogi state has further taken a turn for the worse,as many filling stations across the state have ran out of stock while the few that have the commodity are selling at a high rate. The black marketers are capitalising on the situation to make quick money.
Most of the filling stations are suspending operations as they struggle to grapple with the challenges facing the sector.
According to the petrol attendants in one of the filling stations visited in Lokoja, petrol use to sell for N880 before it rose to N980, adding that they don’t have enough to sell to the public.
The fuel scarcity is having a great impact on transportation fares and other socio-economic activities. Many have abandoned their cars as a result of the challenge.In view of this,many residents of the state have called on government to address the situation in view of the increasing hardship
