From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Residents of Babanla community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, are currently under a strict security lockdown following an attack by armed criminals.

According to a statement from Kwara State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the assailants targeted a local police station and attempted to loot several grocery shops and a hotel on Friday.

The criminals were swiftly repelled by a joint effort involving the Nigerian Army, the police, and courageous members of the community.

The state government praised the prompt and brave response of these security personnel and local vigilantes in containing the threat.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has maintained close communication with security leaders and community watch groups, has ordered a sustained security clampdown in the area to eliminate any remaining danger and protect residents.

“We are working closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser to restore peace and safety in Babanla. The government urges calm while these operations continue,” the statement emphasised.

The governor appealed to the public to support the security agencies and remain calm during this challenging period. Further updates are expected as the security situation develops.
