*Says “Music is my life and I am still performing”

Veteran Nigerian juju maestro, King Sunny Ade, has debunked circulating rumours suggesting he was kidnapped, assuring fans that he is alive, healthy and actively performing.

The music icon cleared the air in a video message shared online by his wife, Mrs. Bose Olubo-Adegeye, following public concern triggered by a social media post from one of his daughters, Damilola  Adeniyi-Adegeye, who alleged that the singer was being held against his will by his manager and stepson, Dayo.

In the video, the celebrated musician appeared calm and full of gratitude. “Nobody kidnapped me. I pray, as I don’t want anybody to kidnap me. I believe that the whole world is in love with me. This is me, King Sunny Ade,” he said.

He went on to reassure fans of his wellbeing, saying, “I have been doing my shows. I was at a show last Saturday at Lekki, Lagos. I am on my way to have a show, and I am coming back again to play in Lagos, as well.”

Reacting to the alarm raised by his daughter, KSA suggested it may have come from a place of love and misunderstanding. “I know my children are in love with me, and they want to see me. I didn’t go anywhere. This is me. I thank the children, too, for their concern as well.”

While appreciating Nigerians and his global audience for their outpouring of love, he affirmed his commitment to his music career. “By God’s grace, enjoyment continues. I am still in music. Music is my life; it is my business, and I will continue to do it.”

King Sunny Ade’s reassurance comes at a time of heightened anxiety among his fans, and his statement has since brought relief to many who feared the worst.
