From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Swift intervention by the Kwara State Fire Service, recently averted what could have been a massive loss at the Alagbede Tipper Garage, in the Ita Alamu area of Ilorin, where a fire broke out near dozens of parked trucks.

The fire incident, which occurred at about 10:39 p.m. on April 6, involved a large pile of plastic materials awaiting recycling.

According to the fire service, the flames were dangerously close to more than 45 trucks parked within the area.

“Our fire crew arrived the scene promptly and worked tirelessly to put out the fire. We were able to contain the situation and protect all the vehicles from damage,” said Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity, in a statement issued on behalf of the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service.

Security guards on site reportedly heard a loud blast just before the fire broke out, raising suspicions around the cause of the outbreak. Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.

Director of the Fire Service, Prince Falade John, appealed to members of the public to always stay alert and adopt safety measures, especially in areas where flammable materials are stored.

“This incident could have been worse. We urge residents and businesses to be proactive about fire safety. Our team is always ready to respond, but prevention remains the best option,” he said.

The fire service reassured the public of its dedication to protecting lives and property through rapid response and continuous awareness on fire prevention.
