Kwara Assembly Committee pledges Legislative backing for Health Sector Growth

The newly reconstituted Kwara State House of Assembly Committee on Health and Nutrition, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting healthcare reforms in the state.

During a familiarisation meeting at the Assembly Complex in Ilorin, the committee  engaged with key officials from the Kwara State Ministry of Health and its agencies to strengthen collaboration for improved healthcare delivery.

Leading the delegation was the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, alongside top officials, including Prof. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), and Dr. Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, Executive Secretary of the Kwara Health Insurance Agency (KWHIA).

Others present were Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board (HMB), Dr. Ahmed Bola, Chief Medical Director of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), as well as senior directors and leadership from the state’s health sector.

Chairman of the House Committee on Health and Nutrition, Ogbeni David Ogunniyi, emphasised that the 10th Assembly remains dedicated to complementing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s efforts in revamping the state’s health sector.

He acknowledged the significant strides made under the governor’s administration and assured that legislative oversight would continue to ensure that every investment in the sector translates into tangible benefits for residents of the state.

“Our mandate as lawmakers is to provide the necessary legislative support that guarantees the sustainability of these health sector reforms. We will continue to work closely with the executive arm to ensure that the people of Kwara State have access to quality healthcare services,” Ogunniyi stated.

The committee, which includes Hon. Lawal Fatimoh as Deputy Chairman and members Hon. Mohammed Baba Salihu, Hon. Rukayat Motunrayo Shittu, and Hon. Yusuf Musa, assured the visiting delegation of a harmonious working relationship.

The lawmakers pledged their readiness to facilitate policies and legislative actions that would enhance healthcare services across the state.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing a shared vision of strengthening the healthcare system in Kwara State.
