From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A respected Islamic scholar, Dr. Musa Abdullahi, has called on Nigerians to foster interfaith harmony by embracing dialogue, mutual respect, and a culture of positive counsel.

He emphasised that national unity can only thrive when people of different religious backgrounds work together with open hearts and sincere engagement.

Speaking at the 2025 Iftar/Media Interactive Session with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin on Monday, Dr. Abdullahi, who serves as the Deputy Chief Imam of Unilorin, highlighted the importance of invitation and constructive interactions in strengthening societal bonds.

“What Islam encourages us to do is simple. Live our faith in a way that promotes unity and understanding. Whenever your friend or fellow human invites you, you should be able to answer positively,” he said.

He further stressed that collaboration between Muslims and Christians is vital for the nation’s progress, urging Nigerians to create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation.

“The first thing we must do is build an environment where people of different faiths work together for a just society. It starts with an invitation, an open heart and a willingness to engage,” he stated.

Dr. Abdullahi also underscored the role of positive advice in nation-building, calling on Nigerians to always offer sincere guidance when approached. “Whenever someone seeks your counsel, do your best to guide them positively. That is what our faith teaches us,” he added.

His message aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen peace and national cohesion in Nigeria, reinforcing the need for religious tolerance and collective responsibility in fostering a united nation.
