From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin.

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Friday marked the New Year with a special funfair organized for children with special needs, adopted children, and inmates of the Juvenile Correctional Home in Ilorin.

The event, held under the auspices of the Kwara State Ministry of Social Development, saw the Governor engaging in fun activities with the children and their caregivers.

He danced, took photos, and joined them in cutting a celebratory cake to welcome the new calendar year.

Speaking at the event, Governor Abdulrazaq highlighted the importance of inclusivity and support for vulnerable groups in the society.

“We have come to celebrate the children with various challenges. It is also to encourage and support the caregivers,” he said.

The event featured musical performances and games, including contests in headgear-tying, balloon-blowing, dance, and first-to-sit competitions. Winners were rewarded with prizes, adding excitement to the celebration.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Olaitan Buraimoh, lauded the Governor’s consistent support for children living with disabilities and those in juvenile homes.

She described the celebration as a testament to Abdulrazaq’s child-friendly governance.

“We organized this programme to reflect the Governor’s affection for children living with disabilities and to cheer up those in juvenile homes. His approval and presence at this event show his dedication to inclusivity,” Buraimoh stated.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Peter Ayanwale, who is visually impaired, also commended the Governor’s active participation. Also present is the Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Aliyu Sabi.

The New Year celebration reinforced Governor Abdulrazaq’s commitment to uplifting the underprivileged and fostering a society where no one is left behind.
