– AEDC, power generation, transmission, DisCos have failed Nigeria

From David Onuoja, Abuja

The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Senator Ireti Kingibe, has urged her constituents to report any case of electricity contract breech by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), to any of them representing FCT.

Born out of dissatisfaction over AEDC underperformance, she urged Public Complaints Commission (PCC), to create and designate within its office an FCT electricity consumers complaints resolution desk with an officer who will handle issue relating to electricity contract breech from AEDC against the residents of FCT.

The Senator who was represented by her Senior Legislative Aide, Chris Omofomer at the FCT Electricity Consumer Complaints Resolution Workshop, organised by PCC in partnership with FCT National Assembly Members, said AEDC, power generation, transmission and DisCos alike have all failed the country.

Kingibe encouraged her constituents to channel their electricity complaints either through their legislative constituency offices directly or to PCC.

She equally advised Area Councils in FCT to follow suit by creating also, a Channel for amicable electricity resolution in the FCT Area Councils.

She called for regular workshops and training programs for legislators and Area Councils staff and their team with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively address and handle electricity complaints from the FCT residents.

According to her, “as a members of Senate Committee on Power, I remain fully committed to present to the Senate any complaints from the PCC for onwards legislative action”, she said.

The lawmaker lamented saying, why should the customers be the one to provide transformers, pole and others in this dispensation which she term as a shameful thing. “In fact, all these are attributed to corruption in Nigeria.

‘The masses right has been trample upon. It is totally wrong for customers to pay for property that should be a service providQers role.”
