In an effort to combat deforestation, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kwara State, has embarked on a massive tree planting exercise at its permanent orientation camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The initiative, which saw the planting of 1,600 trees, is part of the state’s efforts to restore the dwindling forest cover in the area.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, led the exercise, describing it as a crucial step towards addressing the growing problem of deforestation.

He emphasised that deforestation is becoming a significant challenge in Nigeria, and immediate action is necessary to mitigate its effects.

Corps members, alongside camp officials, actively participated in the tree planting campaign.

Additionally, the Corps members have formed a group called the “Forestation Vanguard,” which aims to spread the message of tree planting across various communities in Kwara State, promoting environmental sustainability and awareness.

This initiative highlights the NYSC’s commitment to environmental conservation and its role in combating climate change at the grassroots level.
