Thunderstorms and rain expected across Nigeria over the weekend: NiMET

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has released a weather outlook predicting significant thunderstorms and rains across various parts of Nigeria for the upcoming weekend.

According to NIMET, “From Friday morning, thunderstorms are expected in parts of Kano and Kaduna States, with afternoon storms anticipated in Bauchi, Gombe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba States.

“In the North Central region, morning thunderstorms and rains are forecasted for areas including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Benue, Niger, and Nasarawa States. Thunderstorms are also predicted in the afternoon for the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, and Kwara States.

“Southern Nigeria will see morning rains in parts of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ondo, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States, with intermittent rains expected throughout the entire Southern region later in the day.

“On Sunday, morning thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Kebbi, Kaduna, and Zamfara States, with afternoon and evening storms forecasted for Gombe, Kaduna, and Bauchi States.

“The Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger States will experience morning thunderstorms and rains, continuing into the later part of the day. Similar weather patterns are expected in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, and Lagos States, with intermittent rains in Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River later in the day.

“Sunday will also see morning thunderstorms in Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, and Bauchi States, with further storms anticipated in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi States.

“In the North Central region, morning rains are predicted for the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger States, with partly cloudy conditions expected in the afternoon and evening. Edo and Lagos States will see morning rains, with intermittent rains in the afternoon and evening expected in Ondo, Ekiti, and Osun States.”

NiMET further advised the public to take necessary precautions as strong winds may accompany the thunderstorms. They encouraged Airline operators to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMET for effective planning of their operations.
