From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Three persons have been burnt to death, following a fatal collision between a passenger bus and a truck around the Okolowo area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The accident, which occurred recently near Ibrolak Filling Station, reportedly happened when a passenger bus travelling from Lagos towards the northern part of the country rammed into a truck attempting a U-turn.

The truck was said to have approached from the Shao direction and was making a U-turn towards Okolowo when the collision occurred.

Eyewitnesses said the impact triggered a fire that engulfed the passenger bus, trapping its three occupants, who were burnt beyond recognition.

An eyewitness, who spoke with our correspondent, said the intensity of the fire made it difficult to rescue the victims.

The source added that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), arrived at the scene before daybreak and evacuated the remains of the victims.

The Kwara State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Babatunde Kazeem, confirmed the accident.

He, however, promised to provide further details on the incident but was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
