From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Obbo-Ile Progressive Association, has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently commence the construction of the Osi-Obbo-Ile-Eruku-Egbe road linking communities in Kwara and Kogi states.

The President of the association, Comrade John Fashikun, made the appeal while highlighting the importance of the road to residents, motorists and economic activities in the affected communities.

Fashikun said the deplorable condition of the road had continued to hamper economic activities, movement of people and transportation of goods across the communities.

He stressed that rehabilitating and constructing the road would improve connectivity, boost economic activities and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the affected areas.

He urged the Federal Government to direct the relevant agencies to commence work on the road without further delay, warning that its condition could deteriorate further if urgent intervention was not provided.

According to him, although the Federal Government had approved the commencement of work on the road, no meaningful action had been taken to address the situation.

“Motorists and other road users are trapped on the road, while the township roads have deteriorated from bad to worse,” he said.

Fashikun maintained that good road infrastructure was essential to development, urging the government to act swiftly to prevent residents from losing confidence in its commitment to their welfare.

He also commended the present administration for the various projects it had facilitated across the country, noting that the construction of the road would not only ease transportation but also improve security along the routes linking the communities.

The association president said the group, traditional rulers, community forums and individuals had repeatedly drawn the attention of the Federal and Kwara State Governments to the deplorable condition of the township roads.

He disclosed that several letters had been written over the past five years seeking urgent intervention, but regretted that no concrete steps had so far been taken to address the problem.

Fashikun, who spoke emotionally about the hardship caused by the poor state of the road, described it as vital to the lives and wellbeing of residents of the affected communities.

He therefore called on the Federal Government and other relevant authorities to treat the construction of the Osi-Obbo-Ile-Eruku-Egbe road as an urgent priority.
